macOS requires Accessibility permission (AXIsProcessTrusted) for any background application to detect global keystroke events across other apps. RetroKeys only reads the virtual key type (standard, space, enter, backspace) to trigger the corresponding acoustic sound. It never logs, stores, or transmits your keystrokes.
Yes! RetroKeys includes an integrated interactive Sound Test Pad in its menu bar popover and web dashboard. You can audition all switch sounds and test typing speed inside the app without system-wide permissions.
